Suitable for age 16+

Rhizome Tears begins in the city and slowly returns us to nature. We start in a place of concrete jungles and late-stage capitalism, and slowly reach our happy place, somewhere out in nature, where none of those things seem to matter anymore.

Rhizome Tears is a performance that combines practices of live art, dramaturgy, monologues, movement and music to capture the journey of returning to a place of wellbeing. It starts in a dark place and slowly moves towards a light-hearted, wholesome place.
A projector plays various videos in the background whilst a man in a suit interacts with a mysterious being in a Ghillie suit. Together, they realise therapy isn’t for them and so, they go about it in their own way. Returning to childhood games, various moments of music and dance, autobiographical monologues, arguments, embracing, ritual transformation and audience interaction. The performance ends with seed packets been distributed to the audience as the performers exit.
The set is quite minimal with two chairs, a small table, a chest, a shruti box, a tarp and a microphone.
There are moments of audience interaction within the performance, such as being handed seed packets and being invited to place twigs in the beard and hair of the suited character.
