Drawing on the Bottle. A live drawing performance about alcohol
The live drawing performance comprises me creating real time projected drawing alongside my performance with a combination of storytelling, off the cuff riffing, song and music.
I sit at a long table on stage or in a gallery space and talk into a microphone as I draw. The drawings are projected via my camera to a projector onto a screen. I play music via my phone. A technician adjusts the volume levels of my voice in line with the music. The effect is a DIY cinema. There is an immersive quality of watching the drawings unfold as I narrate the story and explore ideas.
During the show I create 20 drawings. These drawings illustrate 20 scenarios around my introduction to alcohol, my joy and despair with it, and the slow decision to end my use of it. It's a universal exploration and my tone is enquiring.
After the show the drawings can be sold for affordable prices alongside a book which is inspired from the show's ideas, stories and drawings.
There will be spontaneous exhibition of the drawings created.
The show is poignant and funny. It's moving but not preachy. It's a glimpse into what alcohol can be, how we can use it and how we can say goodbye if we want to. It's a show that is also about creating art.
