Master of the Music - Comedy
Núria Bonet
Suitable for age 16+
Núria Bonet is the Master of the Music and she has come tonight to teach you to become on too. Prepare to be amazed by instruments, gloves, apples, pegs and Weetabix! But tonight, the Master begins to unravel after a dangerous encore goes wrong...
Master of the Music is a 50-minute cabaret show about becoming and being a Classical musician. Through acts of absurd musical clowning and dialogue, Núria questions the process she never questioned during her musical education and career: the discipline and commitment to practice, the physical and mental injuries endured without questioning, the conventions of the Classical canon and performances, and what happens when you fail to achieve perfection.
The show contains vignettes performed on the piano, the clarinet, the accordion and the voice (sometimes, even the tin whistle) which subvert conventional playing techniques and offer new interpretation of canonical works (expect Bach, Rossini, Khatchaturian, and others). Over the course of the show, the story of the Master is revealed as she reflects on the purpose of it all. The show heavily encourages audience participation, who will be invited to become students of the Master - whether they know anything about Classical music or not.
