The Five Flavours of Masculinity - Theatre
Suitable for age 12+
Before all the protecting, providing, hunting and gathering, what are men even for? What is our prime function and what is our biology screaming at us to do? Here at Silverback we want to take a good long look at ourselves and our essential "masculinity", in all its many shades and hues. Through conversation, imagination, poetry and song, join us in "the pub" for our light-hearted exploration of Bloke-dom!
This show is a conversation about what it means to be a man and an exploration of modern day masculinity. We explore issues around our virility, fertility, masculinity and vasectomy. We are two theatrically inclined blokes with complicated leanings, learning to lean on each other from time to time; dads, brothers, uncles, mates. Some bloke’s sons. We are actors, pretenders, fakers and shakers. We are engineer! Yet we encompass much - we are complicated (despite the rumours). We are providers, suppliers, users and abusers (to some degree). We are magnificent DIY disasters.
So we’re coming out of the shed (metaphorically and heterosexually). And we believe that there is room to explore what it is to be male, about how we choose to present and about our ever-changing roles and responsibilities. About how we see ourselves and the many ways in which we are seen.
