TOTNES 900 AD: FORGED IN TIMBER AND TRADE

An evening talk by Dr John T Bruun (CPhys) on Totnes' Saxon origins in ca. 900 AD through the lens of its wooden clinker boat building down on the Dart.

Come along to John Bruun’s talk to find out how local post Roman 'Celtic' and incoming Saxon peoples may have interacted and formed our Totnes trade hub that we still know so well today. John will also be telling us about his exciting living archaeology project: ‘A Green Oak Mirror: Building a Saxon Totnes boat’.

John is a Totnes-based theoretical physicist, engineer and quiet archaeologist focusing on climate futures. As an academic at the University of Exeter, he develops positive cultural narratives to connect places and timelines while exploring how to preserve vital engineering skills for the long term.
