Come to our interactive, multimedia exhibition showcasing 5 years of research about the food lives of people in Tower Hamlets and share your ideas.
In this exhibition we share our learning from the rich conversations we had with our research participants about shopping for, cooking, budgeting and eating food in families. Much of our research is with British Bangladeshi women although other women and men also contributed including local market stall holders. We focus on uses of cooking oils and fats, perceptions of organic vegetables, and possibilities for breeding organic Bangladeshi vegetable seeds.
What's on:
- Pumpkin seed oil pressing (come make your own oil!)
- Lots of arts and craft activities
- Short film about our work
- Displays of amazing community artworks, photography, tea-towels, tablecloths and more...
*Please note that pumpkin seeds will be present as part of our oil pressing activity*
Food Lives is a research programme which is part of FoodSEqual lead by the University of Reading. Funded by UK Research and Innovation fund and run in partnership with the Women's Environmental network, our project explores the role food plays in our lives and the importance of history, faith, culture and heritage in our food habits.
We approach research through an intersectional feminist lens, and challenge other academics, health practitioners, public health policy makers, and more to take seriously the food knowledge, expertise and skill of women – especially women of colour.
