Soil health is increasingly recognised as a foundational factor in food security, biodiversity and climate resilience, but decades of intensive growing practices have led to widespread degradation of soil structure, biology, and function. "It's no longer serving us to feed the plant or the animal, whilst starving the soil.”
Michael Kennard, a Soil Association ambassador, consultant and educator in regenerative agriculture, is on a mission to promote the importance of soil health.
In this talk he will share his passion for the science behind healthy soils and composting with practical advice for food growers of all types.
After the talk Michael will be putting soil samples under his microscope; if you would like to check the health and biodiversity of your own soil bring a small sample for live testing.
Town Grown will be giving away a selection of free seeds after the event, comprising the three sisters: an ancient technique of companion-planting corn, beans, and squash together to create a resilient, symbiotic ecosystem and naturally pest-resistant ecosystem.
