Isle of Wight Coastal Escape
Join the community for a summer island getaway! We are heading to the iconic Isle of Wight for a day of dramatic coastal views, open-top bus rides, and true island vibes. This is a fantastic chance to escape mainland, meet new people, and explore the dramatic Needles cliffs before winding down with a relaxed beachfront group lunch and free beach time.
Important Note on Capacity: While our mainland trips usually run with max numbers of 15 to 20 people, our island itineraries are strictly capped at a maximum of 12 guest spots. Because we navigate multiple modes of transport - boats, trains, and public open-top buses together - keeping the group intimate ensures a seamless, high-vibe experience where nobody gets left behind!
📍 The Itinerary
- Meeting Point: London Waterloo Station (or Lymington for those coming from outside of London)
- Outbound: Morning train from London Waterloo to Lymington Pier, followed by a scenic 40-minute ferry crossing to Yarmouth.
- The Needles: Time exploring Alum Bay and the famous Needles chalk rocks. We will ride the iconic cliffside chairlift down to the beach and hop on a pleasure cruise boat to see the lighthouse up close. If weather conditions prevent the boat from sailing, we will take a scenic cliff walk up to the historic fort instead.
- Lunch & Free Beach Time: Gathering for a late group lunch right on the water at a beautiful beachfront venue. Afterward, we have free time to step straight onto the shoreline to sunbathe, swim, or take a scenic stroll along the coastal path.
- The Return: We will catch the open-top bus back to the port for our evening ferry, connecting seamlessly back to the train to arrive at London Waterloo later that evening.
- Note: You can easily join us from outside of London. Group arrival times at the port and specific train/ferry details will be sent in the confirmation email.
💰 What does your £17 ticket cover? Because the Isle of Wight is off land, organising this trip involves a lot more moving parts than our usual day trips. Your registration fee directly covers platform ticketing costs and your Community Host, who spends the day handling the complex logistics and coordinating the group so you can just turn up and enjoy the day.
🔍 Full Cost Transparency: Other Costs to Consider Your ticket covers your event registration and host fees. For full transparency, you are responsible for booking and paying for your own travel, activities, and food individually on the day. Here is an itemised breakdown of what to budget for:
- Train Travel (Waterloo to Lymington Pier Return): Approx. £35-40
- Wightlink Ferry (Foot Passenger Return): Approx. £28-30
- Needles Breezer Bus Day Ticket: £16 (for unlimited open-top bus travel).
- Chairlift Return Fare: £11 (paid at the attraction).
- Needles Boat Cruise: £10 (paid at the jetty).
- Beachfront Lunch & Drinks: Budget roughly £20 to £35 depending on your choice.
- Beach Essentials: Bring a towel, swimwear, sun protection, and comfortable walking shoes or sturdy sandals for the pebble sections of the shoreline.
Rough Total to Budget: Depending on your own travel starting point and food choices, expect to spend around £120 to £130 total on top of your host fee.
🌤 Weather Policy This is a rain or shine British coastal adventure! The trip will go ahead in sunny, cloudy, or rainy weather. If the weather is wet, we will simply adapt our route to focus on beautiful coastal sightseeing, exploring the local indoor attractions, visiting the historic town boutiques, and enjoying a longer, relaxed lunch by the water.
Refund Policy Full refunds are available up to 7 days before the event date. After this cutoff, tickets are strictly non-refundable and non-transferable, as host allocations and group restaurant bookings will have already been finalised.
