Mythic London – Walking Tour
Caroline Wise's famed ‘super-walk’: only 8 places for a whole new understanding of the capital.
Hidden beneath the city’s streets, there's a strange and alluring history…
In her acclaimed tour, the much-loved Caroline Wise leads a 3-hour walking journey through the capital’s forgotten past. This is the story of an alternative, mystical London – one that can still be glimpsed today, nestled between modern buildings. Expect to hear tales of gods, goddesses, holy wells, foundation legends and much more. By the end, the group will understand some of the richest, most evocative mythology underpinning the city (and have seen plenty of sites to boot). Recommended for all with an enthusiasm for London.
Please arrive no later than 11:20am outside St Mary Le Strand Church, Strand, WC2 1ES. Caroline will be wearing a blue scarf and holding a sign with 'Treadwell's Mythic London Walk'. The tour leaves at 11:30pm precisely and ends by 2.30pm outside the Tower of London (the group does not go into the Tower). The nearest tube stations are Temple – approx. 6 minutes walk (Circle and District Lines) and Charing Cross –approx. 10 mins walk (Northern and Bakerloo lines).
Please make sure you arrive in good time. We're never able to wait for latecomers and it won't be possible for you to catch up with the tour once it's started. Photos may be taken, but recording of the tour is not permitted.
Tour duration: 3 hours (with loo breaks and several sit-downs at sites along the way). Please bring plenty of water, a pen and paper (if you wish), and be prepared for the day to go ahead, rain or shine. There will be max. 10 people to ensure an intimate, small-group experience. No recording of the tour is permitted.
