TL;DR: Treehouse branches out! Join us for our first Festival of Human Connection. Expect a lineup of workshops, events & activities, all carefully curated to foster Human Connection.

Tom and Team Treehouse are so very excited to invite you back to Curtis’ Copse this October for the inaugural Treehouse Festival of Human Connection! After the success of Treehouse 2021, we're determined to squeeze in one more festival before the end of 2021 and this one is going to be a little different.

The premise is simple: we’ve all had a really, really rubbish 18 months and many of us have been woefully starved of Human Connection, one of life’s basic necessities. We plan to change that all in a single weekend of revelry, exploration and connection. Get ready for something different; this isn’t a festival as you know it, but boy is it going to be fun.

Background

Over the past 5 years, here at Treehouse HQ we’ve become pretty good at bringing together some of the most entertaining, enjoyable and talented bands the UK has to offer. However, it’s often not just the music that you, our beloved Treehouse guests, talk to us about post-festival, it’s the people you meet and the moments that bring you together. Whether it's through sharing a pencil during life-drawing, balancing on someone’s feet during Acro Yoga or offering a serendipitous squirt of hand sanitiser outside the compost loos, people mean everything.  It all comes back to Human Connection.

Tom has been working on this idea for well over three years and the moment is now. You might have heard him ramble on about the ‘Human Connection Collective’ as the original name and like the phoenix from the ashes, Treehouse Festival of Human Connection rises from the smouldering embers of a global pandemic just in time to catch the end of the summer sun.

We are facing a Loneliness Epidemic of untold proportions, with young adults facing the brunt of the isolation. Making new friends is tough at the best of times, let alone having spent 18 months actively socially distancing from others.

Reassurance

Whilst we realise this all might sound a little ‘out-there’, especially if you’ve never made it to Treehouse to experience the magic for yourself. Rest assured, this isn’t going to be some hippie love-in with compulsory hand holding and group chanting around a low-carbon campfire. This event is designed for young (and old) professionals who simply work too long hard and haven’t got the time to spend out in the big bad world making friends organically. You are invited to participate in as many of the workshops, experiences and activities as you feel comfortable. Nothing is compulsory and consent lies at the heart of everything we do at Treehouse. You are more than welcome to come along and find a comfy spot to curl up on a sofa by the fire and people watch. This is only year 1, there will be plenty more!

Even if you’ve never sat in the hot tub till sunrise, fallen in love on a hay bale, or held someone’s beer whilst they try to pee without an intimate encounter with a stinging nettle, no pressure, you’ll know how Curtis’ Copse makes strangers into instant friends, and sometimes even more.

What to expect

Imagine a festival where the lineup of bands is replaced with a lineup of professional workshops, activities and performances, all carefully curated to build to the same energetic headline crescendo that that we know and love on the Treehouse stage. You can expect a central thread of impressive workshops, many of which could and do form a a standalone evening activity in their own right. An important aspect of Treehouse Festival of Human Connection is that after each workshop, you will be encouraged to stick around and share a cup of herbal tea with your fellow participants: this is a key part of the experience, as we believe it is conversation over shared experiences that connection is built. So far, you can expect the following:

Cacao Ceremony

Ecstatic Dance

Gong Bath

Drag Aerobics

Wim Hof Breathing

Life Drawing

Ceilidh

Party in your Pants

Intro to Shibari

Wood fired hot tub(s)

Sauna

Hula Hoop

Salsa Class

Acro Yoga

Foraging

Alongside the central schedule will be a variety of ongoing activities and experiences designed to bring you closer to the people you have met at the festival. Without giving too much away, you can expect team scavenger hunts through the woods, flash mob weddings and answering the 36 Questions To Fall In Love.

The Treehouse Spa

Back by popular demand, we are expanding the Treehouse Spa to include not one, but two wood fired hot tubs, as well as a brand new Sauna for 2021. The spa will be open throughout the weekend.

Romance

Whilst this is not an explicitly romantic endeavour, we acknowledge that love, lust and everything in between fall squarely in the bracket of Human Connection. Whether you’re a single pringle with a RSI in your thumb from swiping right, married with 4 kids and a dog, or anywhere in between, there will be more than enough to get you connected. Back in 2018 we had a Treehouse Tinder date (there wasn’t a second…) and 2020 birthed two new relationships that both returned hand in hand to treehouse 2021. We’re aiming for a Treehouse marriage and kids by 2025!

Weather

‘The 1st to the 3rd of October?!’ We hear you, it is not the sunniest month of the year but as these past few days of glorious sun have shown, we could well be basking in October rays slathered in sun lotion. We will have a heated venue to ensure we will be able to provide a warm, rain safe space at all times, and we even plan to see a return of the legendary wood fired Hot tub and the new Hex sauna in the new Treehouse Spa area.

COVID-19

The Covid-19 pandemic is still very much front and centre as we approach our 2021 event. We are paying close attention to the latest government guidelines for outdoor events to ensure we adhere to all of the requirements. After such a successful 2021 event, we’re confident we can adhere to guidance to curate another safe event!

Food & Drink

We've got you covered when it comes to Food and Drink!

🍕White Horse Pizza Box will be back with their exceptional wood fired pizzas, gluten free socca and sourdough breakfast treats.

🍺Tap Social brewery will be supplying their exceptional beer, expertly brewed by those on day release from Oxfordshire prisons.*

☕️Vespa Coffee will have your morning sore head covered with freshly brewed coffee solar powered coffee van.

* We recognise that alcohol lowers inhibitions and can result in less genuine Human Connection. However, after careful deliberation we have decided to serve alcohol at the festival for those that would enjoy a delicious cold pint sat in a warm hot tub.

Volunteering

We are looking for passionate, punctual & hard working Volunteer Stewards to help the event run smoothly. You'll be an ambassador for Treehouse and will play an essential part in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of the Treehouse guests. Responsibilities will include checking guest tickets, directing traffic, ensuring Covid-19 precautions are followed, fire marshalling, crowd control and emergency response. Virtual training will be provided prior to the event. Volunteers will be reimbursed for the price of their ticket on successful completion of a six hour shift. Please get in touch through treehousefestivalhq@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.

What can you do to help?

The biggest thing you can do to help is simply spread the word! Treehouse is all about you, our amazing community and it's been amazing to watch the community grow over the last four years. Tell your friends, explain what Treehouse is and what we are trying to build: we're not aiming to become the next Glastonbury, but we'll settle for the illicit love child of Wilderness and Secret Garden Party!

Please leave us a 5* Google Review!

We don't have a 6 figure marketing budget to throw around so we rely on you, our Treehousers, to tell your friends and share the magic of Treehouse. In ten years time we want to see the same familiar faces dancing under the treehouse, perhaps just with a few more laughter lines around their eyes and perhaps even a baby or three, with those adorable mini ear defenders!

Diversity & Inclusion

Treehouse 2021 is striving for improved diversity throughout the Treehouse performers. The team is actively engaging with performers, speakers and facilitators from under represented groups to ensure equal representation throughout the event. We are particularly looking to speak to under represented performers and facilitators who would be interested in joining the Treehouse family.

Accessibility

Treehouse is working hard to improve accessibility to the festival for those with accessibility requirements. The festival site is step free and access to the Treehouse stage is being improved to ensure that wheelchair users can access all areas of the event. We have appointed an Accessibility Officer to drive improvements and welcome any suggestions or feedback from previous years as to how we can continue to improve. Personal Assistants to those with accessibility requirements will receive a complimentary ticket to the festival. Please contact treehousefestivalhq@gmail.com to discuss any specific accessibility requirements ahead of the event.

Sponsorship

Treehouse is looking for sponsorship opportunities to help balance the books with the added costs of running a live event within the ongoing Covid-19 Pandemic. Sponsorship could take many forms and we hope to build long standing relationships that grow with the festival over the coming years. We are particularly looking for sponsorship associated with Human Connection and the fight against the loneliness epidemic.

Treehouse 2021 was honoured to be sponsored by Tap Social, Oxwash, Modular Mapper, and The Rewilding Trust.

FAQs

  • What happens if Treehouse Festival of Human Connection 2021 is postponed or cancelled due to Covid-19 Restrictions?
In the event of the festival being postponed or cancelled, full ticket holders will be given the option to either defer their ticket to a future event, or to receive a full refund (less booking fee).

  • Does Treehouse Festival of Human Connection 2021 have an Event License?
Yes, Treehouse Festival Ltd (the company behind Treehouse Festival of Music & Arts) is in the process of securing a Temporary Event Notice (TEN) from the Vale of the White Horse District Council. This event license is required to cover the sale of alcohol and for the performance of live amplified music.

  • How do I get there?
Treehouse Festival can be found 'in the middle of nowhere', approximately 40 minutes South of Oxford by car. Detailed travel instructions will be provided to ticket holders. Treehouse will be providing a shuttle bus from Oxford for those without access to a car and we encourage Treehouse guests to share travel where possible to reduce your carbon footprint.

  • Why is it called Treehouse?
Good question! The event is centred around Tom's magnificent Treehouse that sits at the heart of the festival site. It will all make sense when you get there.

  • Is Glamping available?
Not this year, but the Treehouse Team are working on it for 2022.

  • Can I invite my friends?
Hell yes! The more the merrier. We only ask that you ensure your friends read all of the information available so that they know what they are signing up for!

  • Are day tickets available?
Sorry, no day tickets will be available for the 2021 event. This is to ensure that tickets are prioritised to those who can attend the full weekend and immerse themselves entirely in the Treehouse Experience.

  • I can't afford the ticket price, can I still come?
We want Treehouse to be accessible to all so please do get in touch if ticket price is a barrier to coming. Each case will be dealt with in absolute confidence. Volunteers will receive a full refund on their ticket on completion of a full 6 hour shift.

  • Can I bring my dog/cat/gerbil?
Sorry, but we cannot admit any pets to the festival site other than registered guide dogs.

  • Can I bring my kids?
Sorry, but Treehouse Festival of Human Connection 2021 is an 18+ event and no under 18 tickets will be available for the event. We hope that little ones will be able to join us in future years!

  • Can I facilitate/perform/contribute?
Maybe! Whilst we are always open to new facilitators, performers and contributors joining the Treehouse family, this year we are making a specific effort to engage those from under represented backgrounds, so your workshops might need to wait until 2022. Please do get in touch!

  • I've got a great idea to offer to Treehouse Festival of Human Connection 2021, who do I talk to?
Amazing, thank you for your contribution! Please contact treehousefestivalhq@gmail.com or reach out to Tom directly to speak about your idea.
