INNER LANDSCAPE | TITHE BARN | MIDSUMMER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION
MIDSUMMER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION SATURDAY 20th
A day and evening of Solstice delights, from 11am until 11pm.
As evening unfolds, the fire will be lit, and gentle music will gather us together, carrying us through the longest day and into the night.
Set within the beautiful 14th-century Tithe Barn, restored by Michael Eavis on the Glastonbury Festival site and situated on the Michael Line, with Glastonbury Tor in view, this is a place to pause, connect, and celebrate the turning of the season.
You're welcome to bring a picnic rug, settle into the surroundings, and spend the day with us.
PROGRAMME
11:00am to 3:00pm Comins Tea House
Come and contemplate the artwork over tea. Settle into the green surroundings of the Tithe Barn gardens, sip from a carefully curated tea menu, and enjoy homemade food and bakes.
This is a chance to pause, reflect, and soak in the atmosphere of the exhibition’s art and curation.
Tree Sonics Sounds
At the heart of the exhibition stands a monumental oak tree sculpture, originally created as the centrepiece for the open air surround sound stage at the Glastonbury Festival.
From 3pm onwards, an evolving soundscape from the Tree Sonics collective will fill the space. Sam Grassie brings dreamy ambient textures through his distinctive Celtic fingerstyle guitar work. Violeta Vicci intertwines deeply moving vocals with enchanting violin melodies inspired by ever changing landscapes. As the solstice unfolds and the fire is lit, Aisha Vaughan offers a sonic balm, blending wordless vocals with live harp, synths, and field recordings like birdsong and wind chimes, creating an atmosphere that feels intimate and elemental.

THE VENUE
The Pilton Tithe Barn sits at the heart of the Vale of Avalon, in a commanding position overlooking King’s Hill and the hallowed ground of Glastonbury Festival, with Glastonbury Tor, the Blackdown Hills, and the western seaboard visible in the distance.
Originally built in the 14th century to store produce for Glastonbury Abbey, the barn later fell into ruin. Once thatched, it was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire in 1963 – an event witnessed by an 18-year-old Michael Eavis. Decades later, with the support of English Heritage funding, he helped restore the barn to its former glory. The restored building officially reopened in April 2005.
