Writing History for Young People at Wrongs Covert

Thu 6 Aug 2026 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM Wrongs Covert

Calling all nature lovers, budding historians and writers. Join art historian, poetry writer and forest school leader Roxanne Matthews for a day in the woods unearthing stories from the land and turning them into prose.

Having developed and delivered workshops for the National Centre for Writing and the Young Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, Roxanne is here to share her recent research at Wrongs Covert and join forces with the land and a bunch of young minds to cocreate stories from the woods.

Wrongs Covert is packed with tangible human and more-than-human stories from the Ice Age, Stone Age, Anglo Saxon, Medieval and more modern times. It’s oozing stories, all we have to do is listen, capture them and weave them with our breath and our pens.

Suitable for ages 9-14.

About Wrongs Covert

Nestled in the reed beds and ancient wet woodland cradling the Wensum, 12 miles NW of Norwich, is a beautiful and magical place. As a large proportion of the wet woodland left in Norfolk, Wrongs is home to rare species, otters, badger, the river Wensum, a glacial stream, Saxon road, Neolithic flint site and hand built structures of wood sourced on site. Your ticket price goes towards maintaining this beautiful and important ecosystem. Access to the site is always by invitation only or through these special events.

You'll be given full directions and info on what to wear and bring on booking.
