Emily Pinkerton

I’m a folk musician, songwriter and teacher. Lover of stringed instruments from all over the Americas. Founding member of old-time trio The Early Mays, and occasional composer of chamber music. This year I set down my banjo to record a set of “Quiet Anthems” for piano. These songs are like intimate conversations with an old friend. I hadn’t played piano for many years, and it felt so comforting and safe. Safe enough to tell some hard stories—some that are mine, and some that belong to others. These are all women’s stories. But they are also for anyone who has lost the ability to speak, or had their voice diminished or denied. They originate from a very personal place, but inhabit our larger cultural context in ways I did not expect. I’m looking forward to launching these songs in to the world in good company. And I hope they resonate with anyone who might need them.
Ellen Atwood

Ellen Atwood is a musician and indie-pop artist freshly based in Troy, NY. With a background in classical piano and voice, she turned to songwriting during the pandemic as a way to reconnect with herself. Her singer-songwriting career took shape while living in northern Germany, where she released two studio albums David (2021) and Humboldt Street (2023). Known for her understated yet resonant vocals, she moves fluidly between intimate, acoustic piano ballads and dynamic, guitar-driven pop. Her songwriting explores introspection and connection, with lyrics that feel both personal and universal.
