Firelight and Folklore : a winter evening to nurture yourself
Firelight and Folklore : a winter evening to nurture yourself
Share this event
We begin outside, wrapped up warm, with a walk by torchlight through the majestic old estate. There is something quietly magical about the grounds of Temple Lodge after dark, the old historic house behind us and the woods ahead, the world gone still and the night sky above.
Then we come inside to warm ourselves by the fire. In the sitting room of the historic main house, there will be a choice of wild drinks to blend and sample as the room slowly warms. By firelight, you’ll hear a folklore tale for the season, one of the old stories that belong to the turning of the year. Something lost but not forgotten, offering a glimpse of ancient wisdom that can still guide us in the modern day.
Then a gentle mindfulness meditation session, a moment of peaceful stillness to set your intentions for the year ahead and to welcome the lighter days to come.
An evening to step out of the deep of midwinter and begin to turn towards spring.

Your hosts
True North is run by two friends, Aimee and Alice, who share a love of nature and traditional craft. Aimee is a folk herbalist with a passion for growing her own vegetables and herbs, as well as foraging and making natural remedies. She also sews and makes her own clothes and loves passing on the simple traditional skills she has gathered. Alice grew up in the Yorkshire countryside and has taught meditation since 2010, having come to it from a career in costume and tailoring. She ferments, remakes vintage clothing and makes more natural balms and creams than she could ever use.
Together they host seasonal days of stillness, craft and connection with nature, keeping simple, traditional skills alive and sharing them with others.
