Sat 14 Jun 2025 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM
Tuggeranong Arts Centre, 2900
Description
Virtuoso bassist, prolific composer, and band leader Steve Hunter formed his first band in 1978 - at age 18 - and has had a band ever since. Hunter has released ten albums of his original music, and played on and contributed compositions to albums by many other artists and bands. He has performed with international artists Billy Cobham, Chick Corea, Mark Isham, and Bobby Previte and Australian artists Mark Simmond’s Freeboppers, Dale Barlow, Joseph Tawadros Trio, James Muller, Bandaluzia, Tree and The Translators among many others. His current trio with Matt McMahon (piano/keyboards) and Gordon Rytmeister (drums) has been together and playing regularly for seven years, occasionally augmenting to a four piece with the addition of guitarist Ben Hauptmann. Steve will be bringing the four piece to Canberra, and performing original compositions along with a few tunes by Chick Corea and Miles Davis. While Steve’s music sits under the jazz umbrella, his music also draws on elements from Spain, Africa, Latin America and Funk.
