Join us for an In Conversation about pioneering artist Ed Clark, his work and his legacy, with his daughter Melanca Clark and writer and editor, Allie Biswas.

The conversation will be BSL-interpreted. The event will be filmed and released via Turner Contemporary's digital channels.

About Melanca Clark

Melanca Clark is a non-profit leader and has served as President and CEO of the Hudson-Webber Foundation from 2016 to 2023. Under Clark’s leadership, the Foundation contributed more than $40 million to nonprofit organizations moving the city of Detroit forward. She previously served in several senior positions in the Obama Administration, including Chief of Staff of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services at the U.S. Department of Justice and senior policy advisor with the White House Domestic Policy Council, and also served on the Biden-Harris Presidential Transition Team. Prior to her government service, Melanca held several positions as an advocate including at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, and the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School and Brown University. Today she is dedicating significant time to honouring her father, abstract painter, Ed Clark’s legacy.

About Allie Biswas

Allie Biswas is a writer and editor based in London. Her most recent publication is a collection of essays by the critic Larry Neal, Any Day Now: Toward a Black Aesthetic (2024), which she edited. She is co-editor of The Soul of a Nation Reader: Writings by and about Black American Artists, 1960-1980 (2021). She is currently working on the first comprehensive monograph on the artist Hew Locke, which will be published by Yale University Press in 2025.

This event is British Sign Language interpreted. An interpreter will be standing next to the speakers and visible to attendees. They will interpret what is being discussed into BSL for d/Deaf and hard of hearing attendees.
