About Turtle Dove
Turtle Dove Cambridge supports young women aged 14-24 at risk of being NEET (Not in Education, Employment and Training), helping them build the confidence and experience needed to pursue career opportunities. We offer a range of support events and workshops that give the young women space to develop skills, gain experiences and confidence.
What is Supper Club?
Supper Club developed out of a request from the young women to have more cooking workshops that focused on simple, nutritious meal planning ideas. We launched this earlier this year as the Turtle Dove Takeaway, where once a month we would cook a vegetarian meal that would be available to purchase as a takeaway.
While we really loved the cooking workshop, we thought it would be great to sit and share the meal with the community. As we are in the process of moving our kitchen to Northstowe, we thought this would be a lovely chance to meet the community and let you meet us!
This November session is a trial run for an event we are hoping to run every month next year, where on the fourth Tuesday of the month we can all come together and enjoy the delicious, homecooked meal we have made.
Supper Club is about more than sharing a delicious meal. It gives our young women the opportunity to practice cooking, hospitality and serving skills in a supportive environment, while helping everyone build confidence, practice small talk and form genuine connections across the community. Even if a large donation is out of your budget, just by coming and sharing a meal with us, you are helping support young women from around Cambridgeshire.
Who is Welcome?
Everyone is welcome at our Supper Club! Whether you’re a Northstowe resident, part of a local community group, or a young woman who wants to check us out, we’d love to see you! You’re welcome to book individually or with friends and family. Children are welcome, but must be with a responsible adult.
Venue
Hanger B, Unity Centre, The Green, Northstowe, Cambridge, CB24 1FG. There is some parking on site, but there is lots of free parking at the Park & Ride. The site is accessible and has step-free access.
Timings
We will be sitting down to eat at 6:30, so please arrive in time for this. There is room to wait in the Unity Centre for early arrivals. It’s going to be a two course meal, but we would expect to have finished by 8.
Payment
We are incredibly aware that times are getting tougher, and we want to make sure that cost is not a factor in people not attending. That being said, this event does cost us money to put on – room hire, staffing costs, ingredients, supported transport for the young women to Northstowe. For this first event, we are leaving it up to you how much you would like to pay. There is the option to donate now (the most helpful to us, as it allows us to see how income vs cost before the event even starts!) but there will also be the option to give cash and card donations on the day. Please pay what you feel you are able to, and hopefully we will be able to keep this model going for future Supper Clubs, and making this an inclusive and welcoming space.
Menu
On this month's menu, the Turtle Dove young women will be making curried parsnip soup with a homemade cheese scone, followed by our gluten free, dairy free chocolate brownie.
Allergens & Dietary Requirements
Every meal we make will be vegetarian and gluten free as standard. As we want to keep the cooking workshop simple and realistic for our young women, we will only be making one meal, but with enough notice we may be able to cater this towards your allergens and dietaries.
If you have specific dietary requirements, please email alice@turtledovecambridge.com prior to booking a slot to discuss the menu.
