Tusian | Sketching Scents

Fragrance, Prose, and the Culinary Arts

Events list

About Tusian

Located in the charming Dichterswijk (the Poet’s Quarter) of Utrecht, Tusian is a boutique studio dedicated to sensory storytelling. We explore the boundless language of aromas, weaving together fragrance, prose, and the culinary arts. We believe that scents are living narratives — ways to express memories, interpret emotions, and connect with the world.

At Tusian, we invite you to slow down and explore the intersection of scent and self. Through our exclusive boutique experiences, we compose together, transforming the intangible fragments of life into your own personal sensory notes.

Sketching Scents – A Perfume Creation Workshop

Have you ever walked through a space and caught a scent that instantly transported you back to a childhood moment or a distant memory? Have you ever worn a fragrance that shifted your entire aura, giving a regular day an extraordinary touch?

Of our five senses, smell is often the most overlooked, yet it has a direct and profound impact on our memories and emotions. Scent is an intimate, exquisite experience. Exploring the art of perfumery allows you to perceive the world and your relationship with fragrance through an entirely new lens.

Welcome to the Tusian Workshop.

Tusian means "sketching with scents." We invite you to reconnect with yourself, explore the world of olfaction, and "sketch" a fragrance that is uniquely yours.

The Programme

In this 3.5-hour workshop, you will work with approximately 20 professional perfumery ingredients, including both natural and synthetic materials. We will guide you step-by-step through the process of creating your own bespoke formula.

— Intimate Learning: To ensure a high-quality, personalised experience, the workshop is limited to a maximum of 4 participants.
— 1:1 Mentorship: Every participant will have dedicated intervals for one-on-one discussion with the host regarding their creative direction and to refine their fragrance composition.
— Hands-on Artistry: This session prioritises practice over theory. We will dive straight into olfaction, focusing on the sensory experience and the delicate art of fragrance composition.

Our Philosophy: Ethics & Scent

While perfumery is a sensory feast, we acknowledge its complex origins. Many natural materials carry environmental and human rights risks; this is why modern perfumery often utilises high-quality synthetic alternatives. During the workshop, we will discuss the provenance and risks of certain materials and introduce potential alternatives.

The Takeaway

A newly awakened sensory perspective to enrich your everyday life, and a 15ml bottle of your bespoke fragrance.
