Hidden Gems of the Wine World
Hidden Gems of the Wine World
Need help?
Twin Cities Wine Education presents an eye-opening evening of little known grape varieties.
HIDDEN GEMS OF THE WINE WORLD
Exploring the world of wine beyond the "Big seven."
In the world of wine, seven grape varieties dominate over 95% of the wine sales in America: Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah.
What's left? Only some of the most interesting grapes in the world.
Join us for another edition of Hidden Gems of the Wine World, where we pour wines way beyond the normal and expected. It's a way to broaden your wine horizons and introduce you to new information, regions, and grape varieties.
For each Hidden Gems class, we pick six off-the-radar grape varieties and give you a deep dive into their history, characteristics, styles, and the regions they are from. Past examples include:
- Friulano, our favorite white grape of Northeastern Italy.
- Graciano, the unknown supporting cast of Rioja.
- Susumaniello, one of the top grapes of the heel of Italy.
- Carignan, the workhorse of the Languedoc and pre-prohibition California.
- Furmint, the darling of Hungarian wines.
- And many more.
Join sommelier Jason Kallsen as we step through some amazing wines that we can pretty much guarantee you've never had or even heard of. This class is eye-opening for all, from wine novices to seasoned experts.
We hope you can join us!
