The Big Five B's

Twin Cities Wine Education presents our most popular top-level wine class.

THE BIG FIVE B'S: Burgundy, Bordeaux, Barbaresco, Barolo, and Brunello di Montalcino.

Get ready for one of the top classes of the year.

The Big Five B's covers five of the top wine regions of Europe, all while tasting incredible examples of wines from those regions.

We start off in Burgundy, explaining the historical connection to the Church, the impact of the monks, the ideas behind terroir, and an overview on the wine laws and labeling systems.

From there, we're off to Bordeaux, where we'll outline the geography of Left Bank v. Right Bank wine, what sub-regions have the biggest bang for the buck, current vintages, and hints and tips for visiting the area.

Then we move into Barbaresco and Barolo in Northwestern Italy, comparing and contrasting the regions while tasting wine from each. We'll discuss soil types, traditional vs. modern winemakers, the history of winemaking in Piedmont in the 20th century, and much more.

To finish the class, we head to Tuscany to experience Brunello di Montalcino, the coveted and legendary wine made just outside of Siena. We'll learn about the Brunello clone of Sangiovese, the recent history and rise of this region, and discuss top producers.

This is one of our favorite high-end classes to offer, and we guarantee you'll have a great time and learn a ton. We hope to see you there!
