The Sonoma County AVA's ... a deep dive!

***

The AVA's of Sonoma County

Sonoma County might just be the most complete wine region in America. It’s a place where geography does the talking—from the wind-swept, fog-laced edges of the Sonoma Coast producing electric Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, to the sun-drenched expanses of Alexander Valley, home to powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and old vine Zinfandel. And in between? A patchwork of microclimates and soils that make Sonoma endlessly fascinating, and endlessly drinkable.

In this immersive class, we’ll take on the ambitious task of exploring every AVA in the county—from the headline regions like Russian River Valley to the under-the-radar gems like Bennett Valley and Rockpile. We’ll dig into what makes each area distinct, with special attention paid to the Petaluma Gap and the story behind how new AVAs come to life. This is where wine geography becomes real, tangible, and memorable.

By the end of the evening, you’ll not only have a clear mental map of Sonoma County, but also a deeper understanding of how California wine evolved into what it is today. And yes—we’ll taste our way through it all, with a lineup of wines that brings these places vividly to life. This is Sonoma in full color, and it’s not to be missed.
