Awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science by the University of Exeter for services to the marine environment, he has been recognised as Environmentalist of the Year and featured in the ENDS Report Campaigning Power List. Formerly CEO of Surfers Against Sewage, Hugo founded initiatives including Plastic Free Communities and the Million Mile Beach Clean, and played a key role in exposing sewage and plastic pollution. He chairs Save the Waves Coalition, writes for Oceanographic Magazine, and is a regular commentator across national media. Based in Cornwall, he is one of the UK's leading voices on ocean conservation.
Feargal Sharkey
Feargal Sharkey first came to prominence as lead singer of The Undertones before achieving international solo success with the number-one hit A Good Heart. He later moved into music industry leadership roles, serving as A&R Manager at Polydor Records, Managing Director of EXP Ltd, and CEO of UK Music, where he helped shape major legislation including the Digital Economy Act and Live Music Act. A former member of the Radio Authority and Chair of the Live Music Forum, Feargal has received multiple industry awards for his contribution to music and broadcasting. Today, he is also a prominent environmental campaigner, leading efforts to protect England's globally significant chalk streams.
Finisterre
Finisterre was founded in 2003 by Tom Kay above a surf shop in St Agnes, Cornwall, born out of a frustration with the poor ethics and design of many action sports brands at the time. Starting with a single fleece designed to keep cold water surfers warm, the company has grown into an award-winning outdoor clothing brand recognised for its commitment to sustainability, functionality and responsible manufacturing. Finisterre produces a range of technical clothing including wetsuits, waterproof jackets, merino base layers and outerwear, with performance and sustainability at the heart of every product. The brand has pioneered initiatives such as developing wetsuits made from recycled neoprene, and continues to lead the way in traceable, ethically sourced fashion. Today, Finisterre is widely regarded as one of the UK's most respected sustainable outdoor brands, inspiring a community of surfers, adventurers and ocean lovers worldwide.
Travel Information
Getting the train:
For those travelling by train, we recommend taking a service from Birmingham New Street Station to Four Oaks Station. The journey typically takes around 25–30 minutes depending on the service and usually departs from platform 8.
From Four Oaks Station, we advise booking an Uber/taxi to The Bracebridge and sharing with colleagues where possible. This helps reduce traffic and parking pressure at the venue, as there are limited spaces.
Taxi and train costs can be expensed in line with the company expenses policy.
Driving:
For those driving, we encourage car sharing where possible, as parking within Sutton Park is limited especially with it being the summer holidays.
Coordinating lifts with colleagues is appreciated and will help make arrival and parking smoother for everyone.
Parking is free within Sutton Park.
More Information:
Please dress weather appropriate, the majority of the day will be held outside, although undercover, please check the weather for updates closer to the time.
There will be space inside to take calls and have some time away from the group if needed.
Please contact trix.williams@tylergrange.co.uk if you have any questions.
