Restoring the River Tyne - Challenges & Opportunities

Opening & interactive introduction to Restoration Tyne Project, led by Balanced Horizon. 

When: arrive from 715pm, for a 730pm start.
For whom: This event is free, and open to anyone with a connection to the River Tyne.
Accessibility: The venue is wheelchair accessible and there's an access suitable for wheelchairs via a side door on Tyne Close. More info: holytrinityhaddington.co.uk/trinity-centre

‘Restoration Tyne’ is an on-going project led by local charity Balanced Horizon in partnership with Forth Rivers Trust to better understand the ecological pressures across the Tyne river catchment and how to address them. The project is funded by the Nature Restoration Fund managed by NatureScot. 

This public event is aimed at anyone with an interest in the river and its wider catchment area. We will provide an update on the project, respond to any questions and seek input from those with local knowledge of any river related issues. 

As part of exploring restoration options, we're interested in hearing about areas impacted by:

• River or surface water flooding
• Riverbank erosion
• A lack of riverside trees or woodland
• Agricultural (diffuse) pollution
• Sewage outfalls, other discharge points or water quality concerns
• Barriers to fish passage

We would also like to identify opportunities for:

• Wetland or pond creation
• Riverbank planting or wider buffer strips
• Natural flood management measures

Hot drinks will be provided. The event is free but donations to cover event costs and support the Restoration Tyne project are welcome, via this PayPal page.

About the Tyne - World Rivers Weekend
To celebrate World Rivers Day, various groups in East Lothian are working together to run a series of free community events along and around the river Tyne, from Thursday 24th to Sunday 27th September - open to anyone curious to connect with the Tyne!
Join us for a weekend of learning & creativity, with citizen science sessions, children’s activities, guided walks and much more. We hope this weekend will help catalyse collective action for the health of our rivers!

About Balanced Horizon

Balanced Horizon is a Scottish environmental charity based in East Lothian focused on restoring nature across Scotland’s marine, coastal and terrestrial landscapes.
