For this special event on April 25th, we're honoured to welcome Dr. Brett Pardy to share an informative presentation on Hockey and Canadianess.
For decades, hockey has been presented as intrinsic to Canadian identity. But what does the current state of a game dealing with multiple crises and opportunities say about the state of the nation? How can hockey culture of both participants and fans change to better represent all Canadians?
Dr. Brett Pardy teaches in Media and Communication Studies at the University of the Fraser Valley. His research focuses on the emotional impact of media on learning and unlearning conceptions around racism, masculinity, community, and mental health. He is the senior editor of the website Hockey and Society.
All are welcome, and refreshments will be served.
Entry is by donation, in support of the UFV-SUS Food Bank.
