Join UFV Student Change Makers Club (UFVSCM) and UFV's Student Experience Office at this event facilitated by UFV's Peace and Reconciliation Centre (PARC).
Journey through key moments in Stó:lō history, including life before first contact, colonialism in the Fraser Valley, and Stó:lō resurgence. Beyond Blankets is uniquely designed to help lay a foundation upon which people can begin contributing directly to Stó:lō cultural and political resurgence and genuine Stó:lō-settler reconciliation. Learn more about this transformative learning experience here.
Notes for participants:
- Bring socks - we ask participants to take their shoes off for the exercise, but do not require it if that presents an issue
- The exercise covers quite a few heavy topics such a racism, alcoholism, violence, kidnapping and various forms of abuse
- Participants will be asked to move around on the blankets, take on roles, read out loud off of dialogue cards, and stand for a significant amount of time (accommodations can be made).
This is a free event but please RSVP as space is limited.
