Think Like a Monk
Multiple dates and times
University of Glasgow, St Andrew's Building - Room 218, G3 6NH
Description
According to research, the happiest people in the world are monks. Despite what modern society tells them, monks insist upon living a life away from chasing after material things and success. Instead they turn inwards and find their true happiness that is already inside all of us.
'Think like a Monk' provides a unique opportunity to students at Glasgow Uni to gain access to ancient teachings and techniques from around the world in order to live the lives they truly desire by presenting ancient wisdom that is simultaneously relevant, accessible and practical . Over the course of nine weeks, we will progress through three levels of development (Let Go, Grow and Give) and begin to live more authentically as we realize how much ancient wisdom has to offer our everyday lives. We will focus on topics such as Find your purpose as well as How to use your fear, and each session will end with a meditation as we put what we have learned into practice.
We ran a pilot course last semester and not only did students receive great wisdom, but they also grew and developed as a community and made lasting friendships, which makes us more excited for running the course this year.
About the Speaker
We are very fortunate as some Monks from Krishna Eco Farm in Lanark will be joining us for this highly anticipated course. Monks come from all walks of life, and we will even be joined by a graduate of Glasgow Uni who is now embracing and practicing ancient wisdom and is very passionate about sharing this timeless knowledge in a way that is accessible and relevant for modern people. The key ethos behind this course is that you don't have to actually become a monk, but you must learn how to think like one if you are wanting happiness in this world.
What to expect:
The course is structured in such a way that it is not necessary to attend each class but students can drop into any class they are able to attend. It shall be easy to follow and the welcoming and spiritual environment will be very beneficial whenever you come.
The speaker will lead an interactive talk for the first part of the session. This will be followed by a type of meditation known as Kirtan which uses sound and mantras to transcend the mind.
