UKESF Girls into Electronics events, supported by Apple, are taking place at 14 leading UK universities this summer. Please view the UKESF Box Office to find out which other universities are hosting an event.
Girls into Electronics gives students - from years 10, 11 and 12 - the unique opportunity to develop their interest in Electronics. At the heart of the programme is a one-day event at a leading UK university. During the day, participants will find out more about Electronics and studying the subject at university level, as well as hearing from female graduate engineers working in the Electronics sector.
Making advances in Electronics and semiconductors is critical to providing technological solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing society, including climate change, improving healthcare and better connectivity and communications.
During the day, participants will experience a sample lecture from a senior academic, input from current students, a department tour, a Q&A, and an introduction to microcontrollers. This introduction will be a ‘hands on’ practical session using an Arduino Kit, which all participants can take home with them (find out more about the kit on our Insight into Electronics page). As well as the event, there will be the opportunity to gain further insight through follow-on activities, including online sessions to guide participants through further practical activities with the microcontrollers.
Lunch will be provided for students and accompanying teachers. Registration details and exact timings for the event will be sent nearer the time, but the event will not start before 9am or finish later than 4.30pm.
The UKESF is committed to ensuring participation on the course is inclusive. Therefore, pupils from state-sector schools will be given priority. Course material and delivery is checked to avoid any unconscious gender bias, and as many of the contributors as possible are female.
There are up to 10 individual places available (capacity for this event is 40). Teachers can make group bookings via the UKESF website here.
