Start the New Year with UIL

Fri 26 Jan 2024 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM AUGB London, W11 4UH

Join us for an evening of Ukrainian jazz and tastings of Ukrainian artisan food and wine, all in support of UIL’s work in 2024.

Featuring:

  • Ukrainian jazz singer and composer Ganna Gryniva, considered “one of the most impressive singers and musicians on the European jazz and world music scene” (Ö1 radio, Austria).

  • A unique chance to enjoy a specially curated selection of award-winning Ukrainian wine, cheese, chocolate, and coffee, shipped directly from artisan producers in Ukraine.

  • Charity auction in support of the Ukrainian Institute London.

Ganna Gryniva’s music combines Ukrainian folk with jazz, improvised and experimental music. Her latest album HOME by her ethno-jazz quintet was released in November 2022 on BERTHOLD records and was celebrated by the music press as “Album of the Year” (DLF Kultur radio, DE) and “Jazz Highlight of the Year” (Bayerischer Rundfunk radio, DE).

In her solo performance with loops, effects and beats, Ganna combines the authenticity and tradition of Ukrainian folk with modern composition and electronic music. It all starts with a simple melody that is brought to life by Ganna's voice. Live and with the help of unexpected harmonies and rhythms, an exciting world of sound is created. The repertoire is inspired by Ganna's research travels to different regions of Ukraine. She interviewed grandmothers and grandfathers in the Carpathian Mountains, in villages near Kyiv and Poltava. Her solo debut album KUPALA was released by BERTHOLD records in October 2023 and received much praise from the music press: "These are sounds of enchanting beauty”- BR-Klassik radio (DE), “One of the best albums of the year with a conscious desire to get rid of all words for the sake of the ineffable.” - Varianty Magazine (UA).

Ganna Gryniva is based in Germany, and will be performing in London following her concert at Brighton’s no.1 indie venue, The Old Market on 21 January.
