Ulverston's Candlelit Walk 2021
Sun 31 Oct 2021 5:45 PM - 8:30 PM GMT
The Gill, LA12 7BP
Description
We’re back on The Gill for a very special Halloween stroll into Ulverston’s candlelit woods.
Hundreds of candles and fiery-flares will cast their glow on the flickering, frothy waters of the beck by night.
Matrix Circus will be with us again to dance with fire. And John Hall and Alex Blackmore have been doing some puppet surgery to summon limb-by-limb a devilish demon who’ll be dancing about the paths.
Ulverston Potters have also been busy this year, sculpting and firing a fresh batch of candle pots to sit atop the railings and fill the Autumn night with light.
Jennie Dennett’s been bent over her wax pan, cackling merrily and casting another ghostly-horde of glowing tree spirits who’ll be popping-out the branches especially for spook night.
We’ll also have our stunning collection of fire-lit shadowscreens on display by master shadow-snippers Ellie Chaney, Nat Tyson, Tracey Escolme, Hannah Clarke & Lindsay Ward. And by popular demand, Neil Wade is nurturing a fresh flourishing of phosphorescent fungi & our alley of glowing onions will be back!
So join us once again for this magical stroll full of strange and enchanting sights.
Choose the best start time to suit your crew (twenty minute slots from 5.45pm - 8.05pm) and get yourself a ticket for just £1.50 per person to help us cover costs and do it all again next year.
The ticketing helps us manage numbers on the path and keep it safe amidst the fiery features, and we’ve introduced more slots this year to help spread everyone out for extra Covid-distancing. So help us out, get a ticket and get yourself to the candles at the allotted time. Please wear a mask at the ticket-point where it’s most-likely to be a squeeze, no need once you’re on the walk.
All ages welcome, spook level is mild. Remember there are lots of candles though and avoid floaty, flammable costumes.
It is also PROPER DARK up The Gill, darker than Ford Park. If you or your little ones are less-keen on darkness, come for the new dusk-slot at 5.45pm.
The path is step-free but pot-holed in places – tread carefully. If you don’t mind mud on your wheels it’s fine for prams and intrepid wheelchair users.

The event will run whatever the weather but the candle count depends on the heavens.
