Photography and Creative Practice for Collective Self-Knowledge through Uncensored Storytelling

with Adrián Coto

Photography becomes a tool for artistic experimentation, self-discovery, and collective uncensored storytelling in this participatory workshop led by Adrián Coto. Through writing, movement, collaborative exercises, and image-making, participants will explore intimacy, desire, identity while developing an intuitive visual language.

Working within a consent-led environment and alongside performers from the adult film industry, participants will collaboratively conceive, direct, and create explicit photographic images. Together, the group will explore how uncensored photography can become a space for creativity, agency, vulnerability, and political expression.

Open to all experience levels, the workshop values curiosity, collaboration, and experimentation over technical expertise, inviting participants to co-create a unique collective artwork while reflecting on the ethics, aesthetics, and possibilities of explicit image-making.

This methodology is rooted in Adrián Coto's experience as a martial artist, meditation practitioner, and visual artist, approaching art as a practice of self-knowledge and self-creation.

Bio

Adrián Coto is a Latin American visual artist with a multidisciplinary, photography-based practice. His work brings together critical reflections on subjectivity, gender, culture, and economics through an experimental combination of artistic strategies, material exploration, and theoretical research.

Working across performance, installation, and staged photography, he examines the body and gender as political constructs, creating layered interventions that challenge conventional representations. Coto graduated with a First-Class MA in Art Photography from the University of Westminster. He also holds a Licenciate in Psychology from the University of Costa Rica, where he studied Fine Arts and completed an honorary dissertation on masculinities and discourse analysis, before working as a commercial photographer.

Señor Babe is part of the ongoing series Queering Action and has become a recurring element of the artist's visual language and practice.
