Fri 14 Nov 2025 19:30 - 21:00 GMT Old Library, University Church of St Mary the Virgin, The, High St, Oxford OX1 4BJ

Displacing Rhodes: A Critical Conversation on Resilience, Representation, and Colonial Legacies in Zimbabwe invites you to an evening of learning, reflection and dialogue seeking to engage with the on-going exhibition of Zimbabwean sculpture on display in the University Church.

The talk will open with a brief introduction to Cecil Rhodes by Uncomfortable Oxford, contextualising his statue and legacies in Oxford and southern Africa. This will be followed by a short talk from Professor William Beinart exploring the Zimbabwean Stone Sculpture, Chitungwiza Arts Centre and the exhibition.

The Exhibition has been curated by the Oxford Zimbabwe Arts Partnership (OZAP) as a way of representing the power and resourcefulness of indigenous Zimbabweans who continue to challenge and re-shape the legacies of empire.

This event is free and open to all. Please book a ticket to ensure your space. The exhibition and this special event are generously sponsored and supported by the University Church of St Mary the Virgin.
