In a trauma-informed school community, we stay in community even when challenge and conflict arise. This is way easier said than done! How do we see the good in students (and coworkers) when we're harmed by their behavior, or we disagree about core values? How do we integrate a sense of care into a school system that seems to be the opposite of caring? And how do we do this all during times when our collective capacity for care is stretched pretty thin?

There are no easy answers to these questions, but I return over and over to the philosophy of unconditional positive regard as one that might offer some guidance. In this workshop, we'll:

  • Learn about unconditional positive regard and related philosophies
  • Do some mythbusing about unconditional positive regard, harm, and accountability
  • Consider how the structures of our classrooms and schools can shift toward unconditional positive regard
  • Sit with some questions and complications of unconditional positive regard

Come to this workshop ready to ask questions, imagine possibilities, and embrace the messiness of true community.

My pay-what-you-can workshops are relaxed, interactive, and conversational. We take our learning seriously but we have fun too! This is a live workshop with no recording. See you there.
