Dr Tchilissila Alicerces Simões is a lecturer for Leicester's Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. Her academic journey commenced at the University of Minho in Braga, Portugal, where she earned her Integrated Master's in Clinical Psychology (2009). Subsequently, she completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology with a specialisation in Family Psychology and Family Intervention (2023) at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Her doctoral research culminated in creating a comprehensive Family Life Cycle model designed to assess the developmental particularities within Angolan families. She firmly believes that psychologists should use appropriate cultural lenses in assessing and conceptualising individuals' and families' strengths, difficulties and challenges. She was a lecturer and course coordinator in Clinical Psychology at the Instituto Politecnico Tundavala in Lubango, Angola. She is also a registered and practising clinical psychologist, having clinical experience in the NHS and private practice.
Aims of this seminar include:
- A brief peek at the Portuguese colonisation in Angola and its impacts on family configuration and development
- Understanding what is family and its configurations
- Discussing the Family Life Cycle: How suitable are Western models for this context?
- Understating the role of religion and the traditional culture in defining the Family Life Cycle Model.
- Exploring the Family functioning, Strengths, Difficulties, Routines and Rituals in different stages of its life cycle.
