DClinPsy Research Conference - Beyond diagnosis: Lived Experience in Clinical Assessment and Practice

Join us for the next instalment of our DClinPsy Research Conference, presented by our 2023 Cohort.

This doctorate research conference brings together researchers, clinicians, and people with lived experience to explore the realities of living with clinical diagnoses. Presentations will examine how diagnoses shape identity, healthcare experiences, and everyday life, while challenging approaches rooted solely in the medical model. Through a focus on lived experience, the conference promotes holistic, person-centred, and individualised care, encouraging clinicians and researchers to integrate personal narratives into assessment and practice to improve compassionate, meaningful, and effective healthcare.

Suzanne is celebrating her 20th year with LPT's award-winning Homeless Mental Health Service. She has always been passionate about social justice and throughout her career has worked hard for anti-oppressive, narrative understandings of distress which centre lived expertise and resist pathologising or marginalising ways of knowing. Community, critical and feminist psychologies have been her trusted theoretical foundations upon which she has built her clinical psychology praxis. She has been fortunate enough to teach on the Community Psychology module of the University of Leicester DClinPsy training course since 2007. Her influence contributed to the decision to take this teaching out of the classroom and into the community in 2013 which has become one of the distinguishing characteristics of the Leicester course.

This is a free event, open to all, and will be held in person on the University of Leicester Campus, in Lecture Theatre 2, at the George Davies Centre. This event will not be recorded.
