Dr Manjith Narayanan, Consultant In Paediatric Respiratory Medicine
Cough is probably the most common problem causing parents to seek medical attention for their child. There are various causes of cough, and the most common is the ubiquitous ‘viral infection’, which is often self-resolving and not generally a cause for worry. In some cases, it may point to the presence of underlying diseases, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis or infections in the lungs and airways. Our team in Leicester is aiming to identify features of cough that suggest presence of serious underlying disease. Dr Narayanan aims to summarise some current work in this field.
