Astronomy in the City is a series of (free) public events, each packed with astrophysics; stargazing, and tea and biscuits. Evenings begin with several exhibits from the students of our research group, followed by talks covering astronomical highlights and recent research, and a question-and-answer session (for everything from beginner's questions about the night sky to the latest work done here in Birmingham).

Each Astronomy in the City event features a talk on a different astrophysical topic connected to the research done at the University of Birmingham. At this month's event, we will be hearing from Dr Clément Bonnerot, who will talk about the disruption of stars by supermassive black holes.

The reception desk is located by the Large Lecture Theatre of the Poynting Physics Building (R13 on the campus map) on the University's Edgbaston campus. The University's website has directions to the Edgbaston campus and how to find the Poynting Physics Building; the lecture theatre, refreshments and demonstrations are on the second floor.

Programme:

17:30 - Refreshments and Astronomy Exhibits
18:00 - Talks begin
19:00 - Panelist Q&A with our experts
19:30 - Observing and Planetarium Talks
21:00 - End

Astronomy in the City is aimed at secondary school age and above. All under-18s must be accompanied by a parent/guardian/teacher. Please only select one ticket per person. As we have limited space inside our planetarium and on the roof, we can only guarantee a spot if you select a ticket with one of the two extra options. If a ticket for a particular telescope/planetarium slot is sold out, we may be able to find room for you on the day subject to availability.
