Publishing in journals: Reviewer 2, and other hazards

For ECRs, publishing in journals can feel like a mysterious, difficult and slightly hostile process.

This session demystifies the journey: from choosing the right journal; tips on drafting and editing; to submission and peer review. It also explores the challenges of multidisciplinary teams, authorship expectations, and being rejected by editors.

In this session you will receive practical advice on how to:

· create a personal action plan to ensure you publish the papers you need

· plan and structure your manuscript

· write and edit more quickly and confidently

· work with co-authors to guarantee timely submission

· successfully navigating the peer review process to final publication.

This session is perfect for PhD students who are about to start writing their first papers, and postdoctoral researchers who want to increase their rate of publication

This session is run by Dr David Jones. David is a research entomologist. After four postdoc contracts in the UK and overseas, he is now a Scientific Associate at the Natural History Museum in London and an external lecturer at Imperial College. For the last 12 years David has also been spending half his time running his own training company, delivering workshops at 16 universities. His workshops include How to Write Research Papers, How to Peer Review Manuscripts for Journals, and Presentation Skills.
