The Frontline Club, W2 1QJ
Description
Join the University of California for this engaging and informative talk with distinguished alumnus Andrew Kramer (UCSC '94).
Kramer brings both academic rigor and years of on-the-ground experience covering conflicts in Europe and the Middle East to his reporting. With the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine approaching, Kramer will share his first-hand perspectives on how the conflict has evolved, the resilience of the Ukrainian people, and the broader implications for Europe and the world. His deep understanding of regional dynamics, combined with his historical perspective, offers a compelling lens through which to understand one of the defining conflicts of our time.
Joining Kramer will be Ryan Chilcote (UCSC '95). With experience at CNN and PBS Newshour, Chilcote has reported from Russia and the former Soviet states for more than twenty years - most recently for Bloomberg Television. He has conducted exclusive interviews with a number of (current and former) world leaders including the leaders of the European Union, the United Kingdom, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Finland and Austria.
In this talk, Kramer and Chilcote will delve into the global political landscape, reflecting on how Donald Trump's return to power could reshape the West's role in international politics and its approach to Ukraine. Drawing on their reporting and observations, he will discuss the intersection of American domestic politics and its far-reaching influence on global stability, diplomacy, and security.
This event is an exceptional opportunity to hear from journalists with deep ties to both UC Santa Cruz and critical global events, providing thought-provoking commentary and invaluable context on issues that resonate far beyond the headlines.
