We invite all alumni from across the UC campuses and visiting students to a reception and celebration of the University of California community in Spain.

Over 5,000 UC students study abroad every year, and Spain is currently the most popular destination within Europe for students to study. This is an opportunity for UC study abroad students to meet alumni working and living in Madrid, for alumni to meet each other and students to connect. Following join us for a reception with tapas and wine and try your luck in a raffle to win a coveted prize!

The event will be introduced by Steve Liston, Internation Government Affairs Leader (UC Berkeley). Over a 35-year professional career, Steve Liston has developed expertise in international government affairs, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement through wide-ranging experience in government, the private sector, and non-profits. During 25 years as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, Steve worked at the State Department in Washington, D.C. and in six overseas missions. His final post was Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Santiago, Chile.

Steve also spent nearly a decade in the private sector, first as Vice President for GlobalGovernment Relations at Equifax, a global information solutions provider, and then at the Council of the Americas, an business association that connects executives and government leaders with interest in Canada and Latin America. Steve now leads International Christian Community Madrid, an English-language international church in northwest Madrid, Spain. Steve
also continues to operate the U.S.-based consulting firm he and his wife Susan founded in 2020, providing international government relations consulting and instruction to students, government, business, and non-profit clients.

Born and raised in California, Steve graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a BA in Political Economy and a minor in Spanish. He holds Master of Arts degrees in Law and Diplomacy from The Fletcher School at Tufts University in Boston and in Religion from Reformed Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. He has served on various non-profit boards. Steve and Susan have three adult children.
