UCSC Presents: Shadow the Scientists (London)

Please join program founder Professor Raja GuhaThakurta, Program Manager Jameeka Marshall, and their colleagues from UC Santa Cruz as they introduce Shadow the Scientists (StS), an opportunity for you to watch some of today's world-leading STEAM researchers as they conduct their research, and engage in the critical thinking and evidence-based reasoning that form the backbone of the research process.

Shadow the Scientists is a one-of-a-kind program that offers immersive, real-time virtual learning experiences by providing rare, behind-the-scenes access to STEAM professionals as they conduct their research. Led by Jameeka Marshall, StS aims to spark interest in STEAM careers and provide a path for continuous learning for anyone interested in science and academic research.

As a Distinguished Professor in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Department, Raja started the program during one of his observing sessions with the Keck telescope in late 2020; he will share the program through the lens of astronomy. Sessions have also been offered in stem cell biology, indigenous epistemology, paleoclimatology/oceanography, glass physics, solar physics, telescope engineering, tropical forest ecology, and volcanology.

Based in Hilo, Hawai'i, Jameeka Marshall uses her background in teaching, curriculum development, and astronomical research to share the work of scientists with eager and interested students around the world. Jameeka will join the session remotely to discuss the program and highlight the work of distinguished scientists.
