'War, Place and Identity: Why Imperial War Museum North Matters Now' with IWM Strategic Lead Dr Toby Simpson

A talk from Imperial War Museum Strategic Lead Dr Toby Simpson, exploring how the First and Second World War profoundly shaped communities across the North of England, and considering how those specific experiences and stories gathered by IWM relate to public understanding of contemporary conflict in Britain. 

Drawing on the collections and future vision of IWM North, the lecture takes the question of how global crises are experienced locally as its starting point, in order to examine why and how museums remain vital places for understanding war, memory and identity in the twenty-first century.
