Course content

Early economic evaluation helps innovators avoid spending time and money developing technologies that cannot be priced, adopted or justified by evidence. It is increasingly used to test commercial viability, explore performance and pricing thresholds, and align clinical studies with adoption and procurement needs.

This one-day course introduces the core concepts and practical tools used to assess potential value early in development. Through talks and group work, participants will learn how early models are constructed, what data they require, and how they inform claims development, evidence strategy and commercial planning.

The morning will introduce the key elements of economic evaluation for HealthTech and how economic evidence supports decisions across the adoption pathway. Participants will be introduced to cost-effectiveness analysis, the types of parameters needed to populate a model, QALYs, as well as model structures and perspectives relevant to emerging technologies.

The afternoon will translate these ideas into practice through a hands-on case study, where participants will build a simple early economic model, identify input parameters, examine uncertainty and explore headroom and threshold analyses.

By the end of the day, participants will understand how early economic modelling can support adoption pathways, inform pricing and performance thresholds, guide evidence generation and strengthen commercial strategy for HealthTech innovations.
