St George's Conference Centre, LS1 3DL
Description
Led by Dr Lucy Prodgers, Leeds Institute of Health Sciences, and featuring dancer-choreographer Shivani Jatar.
An ESRC Festival of Social Science event with the University of Leeds
Join us for #ChronicallyMe, a deep dive into the power of sharing illness stories on social media. This event is for people interested in understanding how online platforms can be a vital source of support for those living with long-term health conditions. Whether you have a personal experience or simply want to learn how to be a supportive ally, everyone is welcome.
We’ll explore how sharing personal stories online can make for great social connections, provide a space for processing experiences, and empower people to redefine their identity alongside their condition.
Starting at 7pm, the event will be broken into three main blocks covering three key themes, each consisting of a short dance-poetry performance, an interactive, collaborative activity and a brief talk providing insights into this fascinating area of research. We will finish with refreshments and a chance to chat informally with other guests before we close at 9pm.
Together we’ll amplify the voices of those navigating long-term health conditions and learn how to become allies and advocates for this community.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: This is a free event aimed at adults. There will be discussion and presentation of emotive topics and images related to long-term health conditions which some may find distressing. As the event is interactive, you will be invited to share your thoughts and ideas with others at your table, though there is no expectation that you will share any personal details.
Tickets are essential! Please book using the link on the right of the page.
This event is led by Dr Lucy Prodgers, Division of Psychological and Social Medicine, Leeds Institute of Health Sciences, University of Leeds. For more information, please contact: l.prodgers@leeds.ac.uk
