Working with your Supervisory Team, Campus Tour and PGR Mixer

This mandatory session will give you some ideas of what to expect from your supervisory team, as well as hints and tips for working effectively with your supervisors, and appropriate use of AI in your research degree. The session will take place on the campus of the University of Leicester, in the Ken Edwards Builing, but there is an option to participate online for people who are legitimately unable to join in person.  The session will be followed by an optional tour of PGR spaces on campus (unavailable online).

13:00-15:30: Working with your Supervisory Team

One of the most important factors in a successful doctorate is to have an effective professional relationship with your supervisors. In this session you will hear how to develop shared expectations with your supervisors, effective means of communicating with your supervisory team, and how to record supervisory meetings.  We will also discuss the use of AI in your research degre, giving examples of appropriate and innappropriate use.

15:30-16:30: PGR Spaces Tour

Starting from the Ken Edwards Building

Following the session, join our tour of essential spaces on campus for PGRs, including the Doctoral College Reading Room, Postgraduate Common Room and Mature Students’ Common Room. This activity is optional, and only available in-person.

16:30-18:00: PGR Mixer, including Campus Tour Quiz

Join your Students' Union rep for a post-tour mixer and quiz where you can find out more about the spaces and services available to you throughout your research journey, and meet fellow PGRs. 10 Quiz winners will receive a prize, so come for the tour and stay for the quiz! This activity is optional, and only available in-person.
