Nevada Images: 1973 to 2002 / 30 Years of Change
Join Special Collections and University Archives for a special presentation by photographer and author Lawrence Meeker!
Nevada Images: 1973 to 2002 / 30 Years of Change features a sampling of historic photographs from Special Collection’s Lawrence E. Meeker Collection that illustrate scenes from each of Nevada’s 17 counties and how they have changed over time. The focus is on small towns and rural landscapes where the photographer has returned or conducted research to document current conditions.
Books will be available for sale after the talk.
About the Photographer
Lawrence Meeker is a long-time Nevada resident and UNR graduate whose career oversaw the planning, design and construction of railroads, bridges, and highways throughout the western USA. He began taking photographs at age 14 and has carefully archived more than 50,000 images since then. Lawrence has recently published four Guidebooks on local historic sites and leads corresponding field trips for non-profit groups.
How to Participate In Person
Just come on over to MIKC 104 on September 18th at 1 pm!
The nearest general public parking is the Brian J. Whalen Parking Complex off of Virginia St. The nearest accessible parking is directly south of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center
The event is located in the Vault Studio, room 104 of the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center which is on the northwest side of the first floor.
- From the accessible north entrance: Take the elevator at left when you enter. The Vault Studio will be across the hallway from the elevator.
- From the accessible south entrance: Head up to the Whittemore gallery outside the Wells Fargo Auditorium, go past the @One Department, and proceed down the hallway all the way to the north end. The Vault Studio will be the last door on the left.
