Seeking Sanctuary: What It Means to Feel at Home
Come join us for an insightful discussion on the concept of 'home' and what it truly means . Our event will feature engaging speakers who will share their research and perspectives on this topic. This event focuses on research carried out outside of the UK.
Talk 1- Experiences of unaccompanied young people seeking asylum in the UK: The challenges to feeling safe and home in the UK.- Jana Kreppner and Ingi Iusmen
Our presentation will showcase work from two research projects conducted in collaboration with young people seeking asylum and their charity, Shpresa Programme to document their lived experiences of the asylum process. We will show a documentary co-produced by the young people and highlight some of our key findings. We will also consider associated policy and practice implications including our recent co-produced guidelines and recommendations to trauma-inform the asylum system.

Talk 2-Finding Sanctuary in an Unknown Place: The Experiences of Displaced Communities- Dr Shakiba Moghadam
This talk delves into the mental health experiences of displaced communities in the quest for sanctuary and safety. Dr Shakiba Moghadam, a Chartered Psychologist and Lecturer in Psychology at Solent University, will share her personal journey as a child refugee and her experience of seeking sanctuary in the UK. This talk promises both professional insights and a deeply personal narrative on overcoming the trials of displacement and finding home and a sanctuary in an unknown place.
