How Sustainable Are Your Flowers? An Evening of Flower Stories and Demonstrations

Tue 5 Nov 2024 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM St Mary's Church, Church Hill, Horsell, Surrey, GU21 4QQ

Sustainable floristry brings thoughtful, responsible choices that not only make our lives more beautiful but also help protect the world around us. Supporting the use of sustainable flowers is a small action we can all take that has a big impact, and shows a commitment to the environment and a healthier future for all.

Join Chobham Flower Farm's Andy Heslop and sustainability expert Dr. Jill Timms from the University of Surrey for an inspiring evening of flower stories, hands-on demonstrations, and green skills to enhance the blooms you give, enjoy, or display and to learn how to embed sustainable practices into your work.

Held in the charming setting of St. Mary’s Church in Horsell, the event begins with refreshments and time to explore displays and resources.  Jill will then lead a discussion on the key sustainability issues impacting the flower industry, highlighting her work on the ESRC-supported Sustainable Flowers Research Project and the Sustainable Church Flowers movement. Andy will present a live demonstration of sustainable techniques for arranging locally grown, seasonal flowers, offering simple steps you can use to make your flower practices more eco-friendly.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and exchange tips and challenges throughout the evening. The event is free to attend as part of this year's Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)'s  Festival of Social Science
