Helping Women GPs to Thrive: Creating Conditions Together - Exhibition
Women GPs play a vital role in our NHS. Yet research shows they often face unique challenges that impact their ability to thrive at work. From the types of appointments they are more likely to take on, to the way patient interactions can either empower or undermine them, their working conditions affect not only their wellbeing, but also the quality of care they can deliver.
This interactive pop-up exhibition and informal discussion event led by Dr Ruth Abrams, Senior Lecturer in the School of Health Sciences, invites patients, the public, and healthcare professionals to explore new insights from a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) study led by the University of Surrey.
Through striking visual displays and engaging conversations with the research team, attendees will learn about the project's research findings and discover how patients and communities can play a positive role in supporting women GPs. Visitors will also be able to share reflections and ideas with the team, helping to directly shape practical guides for both patients and staff, while gaining a deeper understanding of how improving the conditions for women GPs can enhance NHS experiences for everyone.
The exhibition will be popping up across Surrey at the following venues:
- The Hive Community Centre (Guildford) coffee shop – Wednesday 5th November
- The Belfry Shopping Centre, Redhill, Surrey RH1 1ST – Friday 7th November
- The Belfry Shopping Centre, Redhill, Surrey RH1 1ST – Saturday 8th November
The event is designed to be welcoming, thought-provoking, and accessible to all, whether you are a patient, community member, or healthcare practitioner. Handouts, creative visuals, and QR codes will provide take-home resources for those who want to explore further.
By taking part, you’ll not only learn but also contribute to shaping solutions that support women GPs, and, in turn, strengthen the healthcare system we all rely on. Join us for this unique public interest exhibition, and help create the conditions for women GPs to thrive.
The event is free to attend. Register your details and we will send you further details about the exhibition as plans are confirmed, and contact information for the organisers, to make your visit run smoothly.
The exhibition is running as part of the Economic and Social Research Council Festival of Social Science 2025.
