Do you help care for someone while studying or planning your future – or know someone who does? Join us at the University of Surrey for a free and informal event where your experiences will help shape better support for young and student carers. Researchers from the University of Surrey and Royal Holloway, University of London are collaborating to understand the realities of combining caring with education and everyday life, including the impact on money, time, wellbeing, friendships, study and future opportunities. This event will explore the challenges and also uncover the valuable skills and strengths that can come from caring, from resilience and empathy to organisation, problem-solving and managing responsibility. Most importantly, we want to hear what you think needs to change. Through relaxed conversations and activities, you’ll have the chance to share your experiences, identify the support that would make a genuine difference, and help researchers and local organisations think about practical solutions. You don’t need to prepare anything, and you don’t need to think of yourself as a “carer” to take part. If you regularly help or support someone because of illness, disability, mental health difficulties or another care need, your experience matters. This free event is part of the ESRC Festival of Social Science and is open to young carers, student carers and young people in Guildford and the surrounding area. |
