Join Knoxfauld Farm and Forth Rivers Trust for a hands-on look at the 273 ha Knoxfauld Farm Peatland Restoration Project.

Come along to find out:

• Why did a family-run farm decide to restore 273 ha of peatland?
• What does it mean for the farm and the land?
• What are the benefits for water, wildlife and climate resilience?
• How was the project designed and delivered on the ground?
• Why did Network Rail and EU Project MERLIN invest in the work?
• What changes are already being seen in the peatland?
• What are the risks and challenges?
• And what can other farmers take from the experience?

We’ll start with an illustrated talks in the cosy farm barn, with plenty of good refreshments and an opportunity to hear directly from those involved in the project. Then jump in the farm transport and head out onto the peatland to see the restoration work for yourself, including newly re-wetted areas and some of the early signs that the work is starting to benefit wildlife.

Charlotte from Forth Rivers Trust and Vince from Knoxfauld Farm will be on hand to answer any questions about how the project was funded. We will then hear from IUCN about carbon credits, another way to fund peatland restoration projects - including how they can be issued under the Peatland Code and how this works from IUCN UK Peatland Programme *

Most importantly, this is a chance to ask questions, share experiences and have an open conversation about what peatland restoration can mean for farmers and land managers.

*Launched in 2015, the Peatland Code is a voluntary certification standard for UK peatland restoration projects developed and managed by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme. It plays a pivotal role in the fight against climate change by providing a rigorous, science-backed framework for generating independently verified carbon credits from peatland restoration. It ensures that restoration projects deliver real, measurable climate benefits. Currently work is also underway to quantify the biodiversity uplift of Peatland Code projects in a robust way."
